Glass Butte Obsidian

We try to make a yearly, (at least) trip to Glass Buttes, in Eastern Oregon.

 Glass Buttes has been known for thousands of years as a location with vast

quantities of Obsidian. There are many varieties, such as Midnight Lace,

 Peacock, Rainbow, Fire, Mahogany, Pumpkin, etc, etc. 

Midnight Lace;

Black Obsidian with Mahogany spots, when held to the light, is Smokey clear, with black lace inclusions.

 This is fun stuff!   $3.00 a Pound

Mahogany;

Orange-Red Obsidian, this is a favorite in flint knapping, and cabbing. It is opaque, with black spots.

Gold Sheen;

This is a layered Black and Mahogany Obsidian, when cut parallel to the layer lines,

with have a gold sheen to it when held out in the light. This is a lot of fun to work. $5.00 a Pound

Silver Sheen;

Similar to Gold Sheen, but has a silver sheen, or shimmer effect. Looks great used in Jewelry projects,

or in knapping.

Rainbow Obsidian;

OK, this is one of D&B Rockwerks favorite stones to work.

 We just love the multi-colored sheen effect when cut about 25º off of the parallel flow lines.

Black Obsidian

This is great for knapping, projects, cab backing, etc. This is a good all around project rock.

 Easy to work, and polishes wonderfully.

Childer's Creek Wood

Childers creek wood, this is a little known locale, and has a pretty good supply of petrified wood.

 It doesn?t have the grain detail as some woods, but makes very nice cabs that are tan and black,

polishes great. Pieces to 5 pounds, limited. $12.00 a Pound

Lookout Point Wood:

This wood has a lot more detail and pattern; much more of the grain is preserved in great detail.

 Some of the wood has Chalcedony veins running through it, which can be white, Carnelian,

or bluish Chalcedony. This is nice wood. There are red details in much of the wood, along with many

 shades of gray, brown and black. Pieces up to 5 pounds, limited.

Jasper:

Oregon has vast quantities of Jasper; this is an opaque Chalcedony that usually forms shades of brown,

 yellow, green, and the most abundant red. The jasper we find, is mostly red, or yellow, and has bands

of alternating colors, polishes real nice. There are occasional soft spots in some of the Jasper, but we

 try to minimize taking any of that with us. Pieces up to 20 pounds. Here is just a sample of the variety,

 every rock is different. $6.00 a Pound

Thunder Eggs:

We make a trip to Richardson?s Rock Ranch and Lucky Strike mine at least once a year,

 we just can?t get enough of those Thunder Eggs, we stock several varieties, and can get large

 quantities with advance notice. (We don?t live too far away). We usually have, White Fir Jasper Eggs,

 Richardson?s (Blue Bed, Red Bed, Moss Bed,) and Opal Bed with notice. We also carry
