We at D and B Rockwerks are very proud to announce a new relationship with miners in Australia.

We have a direct source from several miners in Queensland, Australia. They specialize in Chinchilla Petrified wood. Known as the most beautiful wood in the world.

Chinchilla wood comes from the Chinchilla area, which is about 300 Km west-northwest of Brisbane. It occurs in abundance in this area. It is of Lower Cretaceous to Jurassic age. It appears to have been mostly weathered out In place, but there is a bit of evidence that some material was transported. The wood has very high silica content, and very few fractures or internal flaws.  I absolutely love working this wood. You will not get a better polish on any wood. The grain is highly detailed in a lot of the specimens, and the colors range from red, brown, tan, cream, yellow, gray and pink. Reds and yellows are the most sought after. The hardness of the wood is an easy 6.5-7 on the Mohs? scale. There is an extinct variety of pet wood from the Chinchilla called Pentoxin.  It is almost a brecciaed looking design, in yellow and brown, nice wood, but very rare. We are moving a lot of this, so get yours now. You will love working with this wood.

Here is a look at some of the wood.

Ordering Rough:

We offer three grades of rough, we usually have tens of pounds on hand at any given time, but are almost weekly receiving more wood from Chinchilla. We can order larger quantities at any time. If you just want a few specimens of the rough, we can ship right away, if you want larger quantities, we can order that. We get it at an extremely fair price, and it is all hand collected, and we pass this on to our customers.

The 3 grades are:

GRADE A $35.00 US a Pound

This is the best, has multiple colors, nice patterning, and is usually darker in color. Top shelf stuff. Email Us for availability and specials.
